You’re officially part of the Banana Slug family! Join us for the Slug Family Welcome, a special event designed exclusively for the parents, family members, and supporters of our newest UC Santa Cruz students.

While your students are busy getting settled and attending their required college programming, this is your chance to get acquainted with the campus, meet our leadership team, and connect with fellow Slug families.

Event Highlights

• Welcome & Campus Overview: Hear directly from our Division of Student Affairs and Success (DSAS) leadership. We will provide an overview of the services and support networks available to help your student thrive.
• Real Advice from Current Students: Get the inside scoop during our live student panel. They’ll share what they wish they (and their families) knew before starting at UCSC, navigating the transition to college, and the best tips for getting around campus. You will also have the chance to submit your own questions for the panel.
• The First Six Weeks: We’ll preview exactly what your student will experience during their crucial first month and a half on campus, plus share a quick look ahead at Family Weekend.
• Treats & Photos with Sammy: We’ll wrap up the presentation with a special appearance by Sammy the Slug, who will lead the way to sweet treats and mingling. Don't forget your camera for photo ops at our step-and-repeat backdrops!
